FOOTBALL: Avenall earns a replay

FA CUP - Maidenhead Utd 1, Carterton 1: Steve Avenall's second-half equaliser earned Carterton an FA Cup first qualifying round replay against Southern League opponents Maidenhead, which they were playing last night.

Avenall struck in the 76th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Maidenhead keeper Chico Ramos failed to hold skipper Kevin Lewis's shot.

It was no more than Carterton deserved, as the home side rarely threatened the Carterton goal in the first-half.

They scored from one of their only chances when Craig O'Connor headed past Steve Benbow from a Rob Hughes corner.

Benbow made some fine saves to keep Maidenhead at bay after the break before Avenall equalised.
