6:21pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in Local Football
Early season Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division pacemakers Witney Town lost 3-1 to Ascot United on Friday in a feisty match that saw three penalties and a red card issued to the Witney keeper James Zoldan.
Witney dominated the ope-ning exchanges, but they were reduced to ten men on 38 minutes when Zoldan brought down Jon Bennett in the penalty area.
The keeper was sent off and his replacement Alan Foster was unable to stop Ian Brooks’s resulting penalty going in.
James Dobson levelled with a penalty at the other end awarded against Joe Yeates for a high challenge.
However, Bennett restored Ascot’s lead before Ben Kni-ght made it 3-1 to inflict Witney’s first defeat of the season.
Clanfield drew 1-1 with Division 1 West leaders League leaders Brimscombe and Thrupp, despite being reduc-ed to ten men for the last 35 minutes after Sean McKeon was sent off for a second yellow card.
Clanfield went ahead in the 53rd minute, when Steve Olphert converted a penalty before Craig Cole levelled two minutes later.
