ATHLETICS: Ashton shines Stateside
Mathew Ashton clocked a sub-29 minute 10km time as he took part in the prestigious Paynton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University in the USA.
In a large field, Ashton was leading a tightly-packed group as he passed through the 5km barrier in 14.20.
Kenyan Sam Chelenga took the lead, breaking away at 8km.
But Ashton worked his way through the field, finishing tenth with a creditable time of 28mins 56secs - a qualifying time for the Amercan National Championships in June.
Over the next month, Ashton will compete over 1500m and 5km at the Conference Championships and in the 5km race at the Regional Championships.
