Romain Grosjean finished eighth in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, despite crashing into his pit lane crew and suffering a gear problem.

The Frenchman ran into the jackman as he drove into the pits in the race which was won by Mercedes' Nico Rosberg. The mechanic was not seriously injured.

“Firstly, I’m glad to say that no-one was seriously injured in the pit stop,” said Grosjean.

“The rear tyres were experiencing a lot of degradation and I just couldn’t stop in time.

“It was a really scary moment for me, but probably more scary for the crew. I checked everyone was OK and I certainly owe them some beers!

“I lost fourth gear during the race which made things a bit of a challenge.

“It was a tough race, but it’s good to be in the points for the third race in a row and we can be proud for what we’ve achieved.”

Teammate Pastor Maldonado is still hunting his first point.

The Venezuelan had charged up to seventh, only to collide with Grosjean as he tried to overtake him before he was retired 44 laps in.

Meanwhile, Chipping Norton's Sean Walkinshaw and Craig Dolby celebrated their first podium of the Blancpain Sprint Series at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent.

After their podium finish, the duo followed the result up with a sixth place finish in the main race to chalk up their first series points to go equal ninth in the championship standings.

Elsewhere, Eynsham's Dave Messenger came second in the fourth round of the Alfa Romeo Championship Twin Spark Cup at Rockingham.

After qualifying ninth, Messenger got off the line well and came home just behind last year’s champion James Bishop.

Messenger’s second place sees him lie third in the standings.

Witney's Jay Mooney has signed a new sponsorship deal with the town's MG specialists, Just Right Autos.

Now in his third season in the MG Trophy championship, he had a mixed weekend in the opening two rounds at Brands Hatch.

Having finished 18th in the opener, he then went off in the second race after his MGZR 160 slid around Paddock Hill bend.

“The first lap was as busy given the (wet) conditions, but we had gained some places,” he said on his Twitter account.

“It wasn’t the biggest impact, but that was our race, run.

“Not the best end to the weekend, but car is OK.”

He said of the deal: “Anyone who competes in club racing knows how valuable the support of local businesses is in providing help, advice and sponsorship.

“We are really pleased to have Just Right Autos on our team as passionate about racing as we are.”
