JOLYON Palmer earned his first point in Formula 1 following a little help from world champion Lewis Hamilton at the Malaysian Grand Prix.

The 25-year-old, who drives for Enstone-based Renault, finished tenth at the Sepang International Circuit, profiting from an engine failure to then race leader Hamilton on lap 43.

Palmer, who had qualified 19th, was delighted to finally get off the mark.

He said: “It feels good.

“I’m really happy, the whole week has been really positive.”

Teammate Kevin Magnussen retired after 17 laps, but his race was hampered by a first lap collision between Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg, which led to the Dane needing a new front wing after the pack took action to avoid hitting the pair.
