A JUBILANT Jolyon Palmer has set his sights on winning in Formula 1 after securing his future.

Palmer, the 25-year-old British rookie, has secured a second season with Enstone-based Renault.

After enduring a testing start to his career, the Englishman has steadily improved throughout the season, scoring his first point in Malaysia last month.

“For me this year was a great chance to show what I could do,” he said.

“The car was not fantastic, so the objective at the start of the year was to stay with Renault.

“Now I am setting my sights higher. I want to get on the podium, win a race.”

Palmer was among the casualties at Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix, which was hit by heavy rain.

The conditions delayed the start and on lap 20 the British driver collided with Daniil Kvyat which forced Renault to retire the car through suspension damage.

Teammate Kevin Magnussen finished 14th.

l James Hall said he was still on a high, despite narrowly missing out on a prestigious award.

The Witney junior made the top-three of the Professional Motorsport World Expo Rally driver of the year award.

Although he was beaten to the top honour, Hall was thrilled with his appearance at the three-day exhibition and gala dinner in Cologne, Germany.

“To be involved with that class of people, the atmosphere was indescribable,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to the top, but I’m not disappointed, I’m just determined for next year now.”
