JOLYON Palmer is bidding to end his first season in Formula 1 on a high note at Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Enstone-based Renault head to the last round at the Yas Marina circuit on the back of a positive second half to 2016.

Palmer, who will drive for the team again next year, is feeling upbeat.

He said: “It’s a nice feeling as I have my 2017 drive all sorted. “I have every incentive to bow out this year with a good result, then work hard over the winter and come back next year stronger than ever.”

Kevin Magnussen will race for the last time as a Renault driver, with Nico Hulkenberg taking over in 2017.

l James Hall's Junior Rally Championship season is over after a mixed round in Lincoln.

The Witney teenager, who drives for Hall Motorsport, missed out on the final stages in Anglesey.

After setting the fourth quickest times in the first two stages and was in the top three for the third and fourth, hopes were high.

But Hall lost drive in the fifth stage and was forced to retire with a broken driveshaft.

He said: “The anger, the emotion the sadness is indescribable.”

“I really wanted a good result to finish the year on, so we could take it into next year.”
