Stuart Hole scored the winner as North Leigh bounced back from two straight defeats with a 2-1 success against Didcot Town at Eynsham Park on Monday in Calor League Division 1 South & West.

The result moved the Millers to tenth and saw Didcot slip to second-bottom.

Wayne Turk put North Leigh ahead and although Mike McKirnan levelled, Hole won it for the Millers.

The Millers dominated the opening stages and it was no surprise when they went ahead.

Turk, who scored in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at new boys Stratford Town, unleashed a superb long-range volley which took a slight deflection before beating Didcot keeper Gareth Tucker at his far post.

At the other end, Sam Warrell palmed away a cracking volley from Adam Morris.

Didcot started to dominate after the break and levelled when sub McKirnan squeezed a shot home from ten yards.

The introduction of Conor McDonagh turned the game in the Millers’ favour.

It was his dangerous run that created the winner. His burst down the left set up Elliott Osborne-Ricketts, only for the former Didcot midfielder to be fouled on the edge of the area.

And up stepped skipper Hole to lash home an unstoppable free-kick to take the points.

In Saturday’s game, North Leigh were let down by poor finishing and a fragile defence.

The Millers, who lost at Fleet Town in midweek, should have taken the lead after only 60 seconds, but Morgan Williams scooped the ball over the bar.

And they were made to pay when Stratford took the lead.

North Leigh failed to clear a cross and Richard Gregory fired past keeper Warrell.

The visitors looked the stronger of the sides and just after the half-hour mark they equalised.

Midfielder Turk let loose a powerful shot from long-range which was deflected past Stratford keeper Sam Brady.

Six minutes into the second half Stratford re-took the lead.

Josh Shepherd’s cross was headed in by Joe Halsall, who beat Warrell from three yards.

The Millers tried to get back into the game, but Stratford soaked up the pressure. The closest North Leigh came to an equaliser were two efforts from Hole in quick succession.

He first saw his free-kick blocked before Brady saved his follow-up.
