North Leigh boss Mark Gee expressed his disappointment after two own goals in the last 11 minutes saw his side lose 2-1 in the FA Cup first qualifying-round at Didcot Town on Saturday.

Aaron Woodley had put the Millers into the lead just past the hour mark in the battle of the Calor League Division 1 South & West rivals.

But a mix-up saw Stuart Hole put past his own keeper Paul White, before Woodley’s day went from good to badwhen he put through his own net in the 87th minute.“We were extremely unl-ucky, we conceded two own goals from the only two shots on target!” said Gee.

“We maybe didn’t create enough chances, but it’s very difficult to break down a side who’ve just come to defend and if not for two comical own goals we would have won it 1-0.

“Last year we lost to Yate, though in different circumstances, and it caused us problems for another three or four matches so we’re looking to avoid a repeat of that this time.

“But this season our focus is very much on the league and it’s our ambition this year to be a top-five team.”

The Millers are flying in the league, so it was no surprise they were the better side in the first half.

Conor McDonagh hit a post from a corner and Morgan Williams was then brilliantly denied by Luke Carnell.

North Leigh had a penalty turned down when Nick Thorne seemed to handle.

The chance of the half fell to Williams, who saw his shot stopped by Kieran Beesley in the Didcot goal.

The Millers took the lead on 62 minutes, a punt by White bounced over Joel Meade and into the path of Woodley, who coolly lobbed Beesley.

But Didcot were gifted an equaliser when a routine headed back pass from Hole was misread by White and ended up in the back of the net.

And they snatched victory three minutes from time when Woodley turned the ball past his own keeper to upset the early-season formbook and send the Millers crashing out.

North Leigh: White, Hole, Organ (Caton 89), Osborne-Ricketts, Westlake, Gunn, Sanders (Dutton-Black 83), Bowles, A Woodley, McDonagh, Williams. Subs not used: M Woodley, Walcott, Alexis, Warrell.
