Mangotsfield Utd 1

(Bennett 23)

North Leigh 2

(Parrinello og 34, Hole 80)

North Leigh secured their eighth win in a row with victory at Mangotsfield United to go four points clear at the top of Calor League Division 1 South & West.

But they had to come from behind to do so at a ground where they have had little joy in recent seasons.

The Millers dominated the early exchanges and had a good shout for a penalty waved away in the first minute when Elliott Osborne-Ricketts look-ed to have been fouled.

They then went close through James Organ and Andy Caton.

But the home side took the lead on 23 minutes, after Kieran Sanders had given away a corner with a miskick. Keeper Paul White dropped the ball when the corner was swung in, and Ryan Bennett was credited with scrambling it across the line.

North Leigh were level on 34 minutes when a Morgan Williams cross was deflected by defender Tom Parrinello past his own keeper.

The visitors were the better side after the break and they finally took the lead with ten minutes to go when sub Jacob Walcott cleverly put Conor McDonagh through.

He was brought down in the box by Bennett and Stuart Hole made no mistake with the spot-kick.

North Leigh: White, Hole, Organ, Bowles, Gunn, Caton, Sanders (Turk 35), Osborne-Ricketts (Else 60), Woodley (Walcott 79), McDonagh, Williams. Sub not used: Westlake.

Attendance: 106.

North Leigh made it seven successive wins with a 1-0 victory at Thatcham last Tuesday.

In a dour encounter, the Millers went ahead on 17 minutes when Andy Gunn snatched what proved to be the winner.

Stuart Hole’s free-kick from halfway was headed on by Andy Caton to Gunn, who controlled well before blasting the ball home.

Thatcham had the better of the second half, but North Leigh went closest to another goal in the fourth minute in injury time when Jacob Walcott broke clear, only to see his effort hit the woodwork.
