North Leigh made it nine league victories on the trot as they eased to a straightforward 2-0 home victory against Evesham United in Calor League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Keiron Sanders and Jacob Walcott saw the hosts stay four points clear at the top.

The scoreline would have been more emphatic, but for better finishing from the Millers and a stubborn visitors’ defence.

The Millers dominated from the start, with Walcott just failing to steer Elliott Osborne-Ricketts’s teasing ball into the back of the net.

At the other end, Marcus Jackson saw his shot easily saved by Paul White in the North Leigh goal.

The Millers kept up the pressure, with Zak Westlake heading over a Sanders cross from close range.

Six minutes before the break, North Leigh’s Jon Else saw his header from Walcott’s cross hit the bar.

The Millers went ahead early in the second half when Walcott headed down a long clearance for Sanders to crash a powerful low drive from 12 yards past John Bateman at his near post without breaking stride.

A few minutes later, Wal-cott doubled North Leigh’s lead.

Picking up a long ball out of defence, he beat the offside trap before clipping over Bateman in the Evesham goal from 15 yards.
