North Leigh made it a club-record ten Calor League wins in a row with a narrow victory at Eynsham Park on Saturday.

A strike from Morgan Williams and a Chris McGrath own goal saw the Millers stay four points clear at the top of Division 1 South & West.

North Leigh started strongly with an Elliott Osborne-Ricketts shot deflected over the bar and Chris Wright in the Bridgwater goal clawing away a Jon Else free-kick.

The hosts kept up the pressure and there was little surprise when they took the lead.

An Osborne-Ricketts pass found Williams just over the halfway line and he drifted past a couple of defenders before unleashing a powerful left-foot drive that flew into the top corner past a stunned Wright from 20 yards.

Jacob Walcott then beat the offside trap, but saw his effort deflected away to safety.

The Millers should have doubled their lead when Walcott was brought down by Bridgwater’s Scott Thomas. However, Stuart Hole blasted the resulting penalty over the bar.

North Leigh won a flurry of corners as they tried to build on their slender advantage.

But it wasn’t until 14 minutes from time that they got a second goal, though there was an element of good fortune about the strike.

Else’s right wing cross fizzed through to Williams whose cross-shot was deflected into his own net by Bridgwater skipper McGrath as he tried to stop the ball going over the line.

That should have been it, but straight from the kick-off Bridgwater’s Joe Bushin tapped home to cut the deficit.

Although the visitors pushed for an equaliser, the Millers defended well and could have increased their lead, but Wright kept out a Hole free- kick at his near post.

North Leigh are without a game this Saturday as scheduled opponents Shortwood United are in FA Cup action.
