An injury-time goal dashed North Leigh’s chances of moving up to third spot in Calor League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

Having led 1-0 for nearly an hour, the Millers looked like making it two successive wins, only to be denied at the death.

The Bridgwater pitch, which was hosting a game for the first time since late December following flooding, was in very poor shape.

After a slow start against a physical opposition, North Leigh gradually took control of the first half.

Two James Dobson free-kicks posed problems, while skipper Stuart Hole’s header fizzed over the bar.

With North Leigh using Jacob Walcott as their main outlet up front, the home defence, including centre back and skipper Chris McGrath – nephew of the ex-Manchester United star Paul – had to be on constant alert.

In a rare breakaway for the home side, Jake Hawford, tested Millers’ keeper Adam McHugh, who held his long-range shot.

North Leigh took the lead after 33 minutes following an attack down the right.

The ball found Walcott in the box, who squared it across goal where Dobson, running in, crashed it past keeper Sam Alexander from close range.

Although the Millers continued to dominate, the poor surface, coupled with stout defe-nce kept them at bay.

Bridgwater dominated the second half, but the visitors’ defence held firm.

At the other end, a Hole effort was blocked and cleared off the line.

The pressure was building on North Leigh, with McHugh denying home striker Tom Knighton a shot.

And as the game went into injury-time, Knighton stabbed in the equaliser to give the Millers a long journey home.
