North Leigh’s superb away win was marred by two late red cards in their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West match at Tiverton.

The Millers were leading 4-1 with a few minutes left when Kieran Sanders head-butted Dan Western.

The referee had no choice but to dismiss the player, who was followed shortly after by fellow forward Elliott Osborne-Ricketts for a second yellow card.

Although missing key midfielder Callum McNish thro-ugh suspension, North Leigh took an 11th minute lead from Jamie Cook’s crisp shot from the edge of the box which flew past a stunned Chris Wright in the home side’s goal.

Their joy was short-lived, however, when Andy Caton was penalised for a foul on Tiverton striker Owen Howe and Jamie Richards made no mistake from the penalty spot, despite protests from the visitors.

North Leigh regained the lead after the break when Jon Else skilfully hooked Cook’s corner into the back of the net.

The visitors extended their advantage when Tiverton defe-nder Tom Gardner was caught holding back and shirt- tugging Osborne-Ricketts in the penalty area and Cook drove home the resultant penalty for his second goal since joining North Leigh.

The Millers, with George Seacole and Conor Ingram on as substitutes, sealed an impressive victory seven minutes from time.

Sanders fed Ingram, who despite the close attention of two Tiverton defenders, forced the ball beyond Wright.

North Leigh: Bulman, Hole, Hopkins, Turk (Seacole 82), Westlake, Caton, Else, Osborne-Ricketts, Sanders, Cook (Ingram 81), Williams (Eadle 86).

Attendance: 168.

On Saturday, North Leigh face a difficult trip to Southern League Premier Division leaders Poole Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy.
