Didcot Tn 1 (Elkins 49)
North Leigh 1 (Cook 89)

A last-minute goal by Jamie Cook earned North Leigh a draw at Didcot Town on New Year’s Day as both sides extended unbeaten runs in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West.

Connor Ingram capitalised on a poor backpass in the last minute from Didcot’s James Organ and fed Cook, who tapped home to ensure a share of the spoils in the derby clash.

Substitute Sam Elkins had given Didcot the lead four minutes into the second period.

After coming on at half-time, Elkins put in a dangerous corner only for the ball to be returned to him and his shot went straight through a number of North Leigh players.

It was North Leigh who had started the brighter with Aaron Woodley seeing a long-range effort tipped around a post by Didcot keeper James Foster in a goalless first half.

Five minutes from time, the Millers suffered a scare when John Mills was brought down by their keeper Matt Bulman when through on goal.

However, referee Daniel Jacecko adjudged the incident took place just outside the area, and awarded a free-kick and showed only a yellow card to a relieved visiting keeper and it was North Leigh who had the last word with Cook’s late leveller.

Last Saturday, the Millers were left without a game after their scheduled trip to Wim-borne Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Tonight, North Leigh entertain Division 1 South & West rivals Stratford Town in the third round of the Red Insure Cup.

This Saturday, the Millers host runaway league leaders Merthyr Town.
