Callum McNish bagged a brace as North Leigh boosted their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West play-off hopes with a 4-0 thumping of Tiverton Town at Eynsham Park.

The result saw Mark Gee’s side move to within three points of fifth-placed Didcot Town.

North Leigh started the stronger, Kieran Sanders going close with a long-range effort which was easily saved by Chris Wright in the visitors’ goal.

At the other end, Tiverton had a great chance to take the lead, but Dan Western pulled his shot wide from 12 yards out.

Sanders was at it again a few minutes later when he burst forward from the half-way line before his low 20-yard shot was pushed around a post by the visiting keeper.

The Millers went in front a minute before the break.

A clearance from a Tiverton corner found McNish, who charged forward before his scuffed left-foot cross shot bobbled over Wright’s outstretched arm and found the far corner of the net.

The hosts went up another gear after the break, with McNish denied a second goal after he was dispossessed in the Tiverton area as he was about to pull the trigger.

And there was little surprise when North Leigh made it 2-0.

Zak Westlake, in for the injured Stuart Hole, who failed a fitness test on an ankle injury, got above the Tiverton defence before powering home Sanders’s corner at the far post.

North Leigh made it 3-0 on 63 minutes.

Aaron Woodley and Sanders combined to set up McNish, who passed the ball into corner beyond a helpless Wright to complete his double.

At the other end, goalkeeper Matt Bulman made a spectacular one-handed save to deny Tiverton substitute Oliver Seymour.

The Millers wrapped up the rout 12 minutes from time, when substitute Brian Bowles cracked in a right-foot shot from ten yards after being set up by Jamie Cook.

North Leigh tried to add to their tally, but had to be satisfied with just the four goals.

On Saturday, North Leigh host Swindon Supermarine.
