North Leigh’s winning streak came to an end as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Swindon Supermarine in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

Having moved into the play-off places in midweek, the Millers came unstuck against the visitors with North Leigh’s former keeper Sam Warrell in outstanding form.

On a difficult playing surface, which had overnight snow cleared from it, the hosts went close to taking the lead on six minutes.

Michael Hopkins’s low hard cross found Aaron Woodley at the far post, but he slipped as he went to pull the trigger.

Seven minutes later, North Leigh’s Morgan Williams seized on a long kick from keeper Matt Bulman, but Warrell, who left Eynsham Park to join the Wiltshire outfit in January last year, denied him with a super stop.

Minutes later, he kept out long-range strikes from Woodley and Kieran Sanders.

On 37 minutes, Zak Westlake nodded Brian Bowles’s chip goalwards at the far post, only for Warrell to show safe hands.

On 56 minutes, the keeper made the save of the match, finger-tipping away Woodley’s 20-yard piledriver.

Seven minutes from time, North Leigh must have known it wasn’t going to be their day whenWarrell blocked Williams’s shot from five yards with an outstretched leg.

Last Tuesday, Mark Gee’s side had moved into the play-off places for the first time this season with an impressive 4-1 win at Wimborne Town.

Aaron Woodley crossed for Jamie Cook to open the scoring after 15 minutes.

Mark Gamble equalised for Wimborne from the penalty spot following a foul by defender Jon Else.

However, Morgan Williams made it 2-1 on 48 minutes with a right-foot effort that went in off the inside of a post.

Cook grabbed his second of the game seven minutes later.

And Woodley netted the goal of the match late on with a 25-yard looping volley.

The results saw the Millers replace Oxfordshire rivals Didcot in the final play-off berth.

On Saturday, North Leigh will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to Yate Town.
