NORTH Leigh considered themselves unlucky when they could only draw 1-1 at home to Yate on Saturday.

The Millers, who lost ground on the leaders in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West, thought they had two perfectly good goals disallowed.

Jon Else gave the Millers a second-minute lead, but Yate deservedly equalised on 31 minutes through Brett Trowbridge.

A few minutes later, a pinpoint Jamie Cook cross was headed home at the far post at the second attempt by Kieran Sanders after keeper Martin Horsell had saved the first effort, but he was ruled offside.

Then right on the stroke of half-time, Horsell dropped the ball as he went up for a corner and Cook clipped the loose ball home.

This was again ruled out as referee John Farries controversially adjudged Cook had kicked the ball out of Horsell’s hands.

There were few chances in the second half.

North Leigh: Foster, Elkins, Hopkins, Turk, White (Westlake 66), Hole, Else, McNish, Cook (Fullerton 82), Sanders, Williams (Osborne-Ricketts 75) Sub not used: Taylor.

Attendance: 45.

This was North Leigh’s second 1-1 draw in four days, as they missed the chance to go top when they were held by hosts Slimbridge in windy conditions last Wednesday.

Slimbridge took the lead in the 41st minute when Jamie Martin hit a high left foot in-swinging cross that was caught by the wind.

North Leigh keeper James Foster missed the line of flight and the ball finished in the net.

With an injured Elliott Osborne-Ricketts replaced by Cook, Millers attacked from the start in the second half and equalised in the 47th minute.

Sanders delivered a corner to the back post where Lewis White netted.
