NORTH Leigh’s inconsistent run continued when they lost 2-1 at home to fellow play-off contenders Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.

Supermarine, the in-form team in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West extended their unbeaten run to 11 games to move up a place to third.

Mark Gee’s team remain sixth, outside the play-offs.

The visitors went ahead in the 13th minute, when midfielder Sam Morris fired home the rebound after his initial shot had hit a post.

The Millers responded well and straight from the restart Callum McNish hit a firm shot from the edge of the penalty area straight at goalkeeper Harvey Rivers.

As the half drew to a close, the hosts and posed real problems for the Marine defence.

Steve Davies, with his speed down the right wing, was able to get around the back of the defence and put in tricky crosses.

Just before the break they had a chance to equalise, when skipper Wayne Turk fed full back Sam Elkins, whose right-foot shot went just wide.

Marine doubled their lead a minute after half-time.

A low cross from the right wing was met by Marine defender Ashley Taylor on the edge of the Leigh penalty area.

His low shot flew through a forest of legs and buried itself just inside the near post.

With substitutes Jamie Cook, Lance Williams – on his home debut – and George Seacole on the pitch, the Millers continued to push forward.

Lance Williams scored in the 87th minute, heading home Callum McNish’s cross.

But despite six minutes of added time, the Millers could not rescue a point.

They will hoping to reignite their promotion bid away to Yate Town this Saturday.
