DIDCOT Town had to come from behind to Wantage Town 3-1 in a keenly-contested Evo-Stik Southern League derby clash yesterday.

Wantage, belying their lowly status in Division 1 South & West, held a 1-0 interval lead before the hosts triumphed with three second-half goals

The visitors controlled much of the first half and were rewarded in the 19th minute when the unmarked Mark Francis shot past Didcot keeper Leigh Bedwell.

Didcot gave a debut to Stuart Cattell, who until a fortnight ago was the Wantage player-manager, but they threatened rarely before the break.

They drew level in the 49th minute when a low cross from Taylor Janes was turned onto the post by a Wantage defender, only for the rebound ball to fall to Louis Joyce who bundled it home.

The Railwaymen went ahead in the 64th minute when Declan Benjamin set up fellow substitute Nick Thorne to score.

Visiting keeper Eddie Cavanagh denied Joyce, Ben Whitehead and Sam Barder to keep the his side in the game.

The points were secured in the 71st minute when Sam Elkins was brought down in the box by Cameron McNeil, and Whitehead comfortably converted the resultant penalty.

North Leigh conceded three goals in 12 crazy minutes during their first half, but still managed to draw 3-3 away to Swindon Supermarine thanks to a late goal.

The visitors took the lead after 18 minutes when Jamie Cook put in leading scorer George Seacole, who drew home keeper Connor Johns before clinically clipping the ball past him from eight yards.

Bradley Gray and Seacole went close to doubling the Millers’ lead before the hosts hit back.

After 38 minutes Josh Parsons pulled a goal back from Connor Thompson’s cross.

There followed three goals in stoppage time at the end of the half.

Parsons put Supermarine ahead before Thompson doubled their lead.

Then in the fifth minute of injury time, Gray hit back for the visitors to make it 3-2 at the interval.

The second half was one of few chances.

With the game moving into injury time, Gray delivered a deep cross where amid a ruck of players Roger James got his head to the ball to send it curling past the keeper for the equaliser.

Banbury United had to settle for a goalless draw in their Premier Division game at Redditch.

The visitors’ best chance of the first half fell to Callum White, who fired over with the goal gaping.

They had the better of the second half, with Zac McEachran keeping home keeper Bradley Catlow busy, while Conor McDonagh also had shot saved.
