NORTH Leigh made it two successive away wins when two first-half goals gave them a 2-0 victory on their long trip to Bideford.

The Millers defended well after the break and could well have added to their lead in this Division 1 South & West clash.

Visiting keeper Lewis Clayton had to be alert early on to save a long shot from home skipper Matty Bye, and then could only watch as Sean Downing rattled a post.

However, North Leigh gradually got a foothold in the game and Lance Williams missed a good chance, before they took the lead on the half-hour.

From a free-kick awarded for handball, Williams forced home keeper Joe Tickle into a diving save. But he could only push it out to Malachi Napa, who hammered the ball home.

Ten minutes later, Wayne Turk scored a quality goal as he connected with a Michael Hopkins cross to shoot home from 12 yards.

In the second half, the Millers did not give the home side a look-in.

The visitors created a number of chances mainly through breakaways led by George Seacole, Williams, Hopkins and Jordan Lymn, without putting them away.

North Leigh: Clayton, Lymn, Hopkins, Turk, Hole. Sysum, Wellon, L Williams, Seacole, Gunn, Napa (D James 72).

Attendance: 171

Didcot Town’s poor year continued when they lost 2-1 at home to Yate Town to astonishing last-minute 60-yard strike.

The Railwaymen’s ‘Pay what you want’ promotion attracted 179 spectators – much large than normal – but most went home disappointed.

With the game looking likely to end in a draw, Yate’s Mike Baker struck a free-kick from inside his own half which Didcot keeper Leigh Bedwell was unable to stop going in.

The first half was was a quiet affair with few chances.

However, Didcot took the lead five minutes after the break, when George Reid continued his good scoring form.

Following good work from George Jeacock and Sam Barder, the Yate defence were unable to clear their lines and Reid capitalised to fire home from close range.

The hosts missed chances to increase their advantage and were punished ten minutes from time when Lewis Fogg’s 25-yard strike put Yate level.

Then came Baker’s dramatic winner.

Did welcomed supporter Kelly Marie Hodson who is running London Marathon on behalf of Barnardos.

So far, £508 has been raised at Didcot games this year for her run.

Didcot Tn: Bedwell, Elkins, Janes, Ballard (Thorne 15), Cattell, Learoyd, Baines, McNish, Jeacock (B Whitehead 69), Reid (Andrady 75), Barder. Sub not used: H Whitehead.

Wantage Town delayed their seemingly inevitable relegation with a goalless draw at home to AFC Totton.

Sean McKeon produced the hosts’ best chance of the first half, while Dylan Knights blasted over for Totton in the last minute.

Wantage will be down next Saturday if they fail to win at home to Hereford, who on Saturday were crowned champions.
