Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon described Kilcooley’s performance as “exceptional” after the 11-2 shot ran his rivals ragged at Haydock on Saturday.
Charlie Deutsch gave the five-year-old an enterprising ride in the two-and-a-half mile han-dicap hurdle to romp home by 23 lengths.
Longsdon commented: “Kilcooley was exceptional in his win. Charlie gave him a great ride, certainly stealing the initiative, but also the horse loved the step up in trip on the slow ground.”
Deutsch added: “He is not the quickest, but he has got a really high cruising speed. I couldn't believe how far in front I was.”
Longsdon and Deutsch teamed up again the following day to strike with Leigh Hill Legasi in an incident-packed three-mile novices’ handicap chase at Lingfield.
With just two of the seven runners completing, the five-year-old mare came home 36 lengths clear of Where’d Ya Hide It.
Longsdon’s super run continued on Monday when Coologue won at Bangor-on-Dee.
The five-year-old made all the running under Noel Fehily to slam Ma Du Fou by 14 lengths in a maiden hurdle over two and a half miles.
It was Longsdon’s fourth winner in the space of five days after St Johns Point set the ball rolling under Jason Maguire in a novices’ hurdle at Towcester.
The trainer now targets the busy Christmas period, picking out Shantou Magic at Win-canton on Boxing Day as his best chance.
