Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon’s change of heart to run No No Mac at Market Rasen was rewarded with a welcome first winner of 2015.

The master of Hull Farm Stables hadn’t planned to let the six-year-old take his chance at the Lincolnshire venue.

But, having already given stable jockey Noel Fehily the go-ahead to ride at Wincanton, Longsdon decided the going was suitable for No No Mac and booked Leighton Aspell for the mount.

The move paid off as the 4-1 chance defied top weight in a handicap hurdle over two miles and five furlongs, beating Rock Relief by three and three-quarter lengths.

Longsdon said of his charge: “He is always Mr Reliable. He has been second twice this season and made it third time lucky in good style.”

Looking ahead to this weekend, Longsdon could run Grandads Horse in the Skybet Chase at Doncaster on Saturday.

The nine-year-old has proved a revelation in his last two starts, winning on what was thought to be unfavoured soft ground.

He struck at Ascot and then followed up over Saturday’s course and distance last month when he held on to beat Night In Milan by a head in a desperate finish.
