Dabinett Moon capped a fairytale season for Chipping Norton owners Christopher and Fran Marriott by landing the Subaru “Restricted Point-to-Point” Series Final at Stratford.

The Marriotts went into the season hoping the seven-year-old mare could win one point-to-point.

However, she exceeded all their expectations by winning four times between the flags, and put the icing on the cake with victory in Friday’s novices’ hunters’ chase over two miles and seven furlongs.

Dabinett Moon (7-1) dug deep to collar Flash Garden on the run-in for a two-lengths success, and give Claire Hart a share of the leading hunter chase riders’ title with Ciaran Gethings.

“She’s a lovely easy mare, though she does get in a bit of a state when she’s travelling,” said Fran of the only horse she trains at Hull Farm.

“Chris rides her every day and I do the mucking out.”

She explained that it was little short of a miracle that the daughter of Midnight Legend was born at all, as her dam Miss Crabapple, who was 22 at the time, had to have 20 feet of gut removed when she was seven months pregnant.

Charlie Longsdon, a tenant of the Marriotts at Hull Farm, moved into double figures for the new season when Greenlaw and Promanco gave him an across-the-card double at Worcester and Wetherby respectively.

Greenlaw (8-1) landed a handicap chase over two miles and seven furlongs by six lengths from Guiding George under Noel Fehily.

Promanco’s victory came with an easy five lengths success at the prohibitive odds of 1-4 favourite in a mares’ novices hurdle over an extended two and a half miles, with Richard Johnson in the saddle.

On the Flat, Chastleton trainer John Gallagher’s string remain in good heart with wins from Port Lairge (7-2) at Brighton and Amber Crystal (4-1) at Leicester.

Martin Lane was the successful rider on both occasions.
