CARTERTON relegated close rivals West Witney with a 76-68 success in Division 1 of the Oxfordshire League, sponsored by Bridle Insurance.

Victory for Carterton ensured second place behind winners Headington A, with one match remaining.

However, West Witney, who have now completed all 12 games, will drop down to Division 2 with Bicester, after finishing five points behind next placed Shiplake.

They pushed Carterton close on all four rinks, but only Harry Williams’s men could pull off a victory. David Clanfield, Andy Martin and Paul Sharman led the hosts to victory.

In Division 2, Witney Mills had no fixture and have slipped to third after new leaders Watlington beat Adderbury.

However, promotion is still in their sights as they are only half a point behind the latter, who have completed their fixtures, with one match remaining against The Oxford Bowls Club.

Witney Town have been crowned Division 3 champions after beating second-placed Banbury Chestnuts 83-74.

Victories for Brian Bloomfield and Alan Scholan’s men ensured the win, despite the efforts of Kevin Buckle’s rink for Chestnuts.

They are now an unassailable eightand-a-half points ahead of Chestnuts, with one match still to play.

Woodstock ended their Division 4 campaign with a century as they convincingly beat Florence Park 101-39¾ in Division 4.
