KATE Williamson’s effort in setting a new British marathon record has earned her a place on the shortlist for the sportswoman of the year honour at the Oxfordshire Sports Awards.

The Eynsham Roadrunner broke the record for the fastest over 70 female in London earlier this year.

And that achievement sees her compete with Olympic silver medallist Fran Houghton and cricket Linsey Smith for the accolade.

Witney Wolves are bidding to land the disability award.

The rugby club, who were also shortlisted for the honour 12 months ago, are up against exercise class Big, Bold and Balance and cricket’s Oxfordshire Bears.

The winners will be announced at an awards night, held at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium on Friday, January 27.
