TEENAGE amateur jockey Jordan Nailor was seen to good effect again when triumphing for Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon in a thrilling finish at Fontwell.

The 18-year-old delivered Kilfinichen Bay to pip Keltus on the post in a handicap chase over an extended three miles and a furlong.

Longsdon had been full of praise for Nailor earlier in the week after he sealed a 12-1 double for his stables at Towcester with a smooth success on Midnight Shot.

The trainer, who took the opening two-mile handicap chase with the Aidan Coleman-ridden Bestwork (5-1) at the Northants track, legged up the youngster on Midnight Shot (5-4) in the novices’ chase to make use of his 7lb claim against 4-6 favourite Forever Field.

And the move paid off as Nailor gave the spring-heeled seven-year-old a fine front-running ride in the extended two-mile-and-five-furlong contest to beat the Nicky Henderson-trained market leader by four and a half lengths.

Longsdon said: “He has got a huge amount of promise. He does exactly what you tell him to do and follows instructions to the T.

“I probably should have given him more rides.”

Nailor added: “It’s nice to get off the mark for the season under rules. I’ve done a lot of point-to-pointing and have had five winners this season.”

Earlier, French import Bestwork opened his account for Longsdon with Coleman setting sail for home at the third-last, before the six-year-old stayed on well to beat Denny Kerrell by two lengths.

The Chipping Norton trainer and Coleman teamed up a day later to strike with Hepijeu at Huntingdon.

The six-year-old made virtually all the running in a two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase, before holding off That’s The Deal by a length and a half.

On the Flat, Chastleton trainer John Gallagher sent out 10-1 shot Green Power to get off the mark in a six-furlong novice stakes at Nottingham, with Martin Dwyer on board.
