WITNEY fought off a strong challenge from hosts Oxford Hawks 3rd to win 4-2 in their Men’s South League Regional 2 opener.
Ben Moss and Ryan Fitzjohn twice puts Witney ahead before James Rogers and Paul Dunleavy equalised for Hawks.
Witney eventually wrestled control and won with goals from Dan Wallis and Harry Harbage.
Meanwhile, promoted Witney Ladies suffered a 4-1 defeat when they made their South Clubs League Division 2 debut at home to Woking.
After going 1-0 down, Witney equalised through Sunny Wallis, but conceded three more goals as they tired in the second half.
