WITNEY were involved in a nine-goal thriller as they lost 5-4 at home to leaders Spencer in Division 2 of the Women’s South Clubs League.
The hosts led twice in the first half through Katie Gatt’s short corner and a cheeky reverse-stick shot from Katie Oliver.
Spencer equalised each time and then scored a penalty flick to take a 3-2 interval lead.
The visitors took advantage of defensive mistakes to go 5-2 up in the second half.
Witney rallied late on with Oliver and Gatt scoring their second goals, but Spencer stood firm to win a brilliant game.
There was no such anxiety for Witney’s men, who cruised home 5-0 at home to West Hampstead 2nd in Regional 2. From the moment Ben Moss scored in the second minute, the hosts were in charge, and Justin Peel added a second before the break.
Ryan Fitz-John made it 3-0 on the counter-attack in the second half, before Andy Gosnell slipped one inside the post from the top of the D to make it 4-0.
Peel’s late second completed a comprehensive win.
