OXFORDSHIRE’S juniors had their most successful National Championships, winning seven medals in the under 13 and 17 age groups – and collecting two titles.

Ethan Rose (Oakley) was the pick of the players at the under 17 championships held at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes.

He won the mixed doubles title with Asmita Chaudhari (Warwickshire) and also picked up a bronze medal in the boys doubles partnering Joseph Ball (Warwickshire).

In the boys singles, Christian Mitchell (Woodstock) knocked out the No 2 seed in the quarter-finals but had to settle for bronze after losing his semi-final.

The under 13 championships, held at the University of Birmingham, saw Ben Horseman (Chesterton) competing in all three events.

He lost in the semi-finals of the mixed doubles with Sofia Boa (Kent), before reaching the final of the boys singles only to be beaten by Dillon Chong (Berkshire).

Horseman then partnered Chong to the final of the boys doubles by defeating fellow Oxfordshire player Jason Ou (Oxford) and Daniel Fullbrook (Dorset).

In the final, Horseman and Chong proved too strong defeating the No 2 seeds from Surrey, Sebastian Grove and Christian Doyle, in straight sets to win the national title.
