Leafield trainer Mark Rimell might start to take his career in a different direction after his only Flat horse Love Tale won at Brighton.
His best horses to date, Oneway and Crossbow Creek, have been jumpers, but success in a six-furlong handicap was already the second of Love Tale’s brief career.
Sent off at 8-1, she beat the 5-6 favourite Mayo Lad by a length and three-quarters in the hands of Fergus Sweeney.
And Rimell said: “Willie Carson once came to the stable and said it would be a good place to train Flat horses, so getting a few more is something I’m going to have to think very seriously about.”
Rimell was back in the winner’s enclosure a day later when Azulada Bay landed a handicap hurdle under Tom Scudamore at Plumpton.
Chipping Norton trainer Charlie Longsdon, who ended the National Hunt season with a superb tally of 69 winners, has a trip to Royal Ascot in mind for Secret Tune after his win on the Flat at Doncaster.
The eight-year-old, who pipped Lady Amakhala by a neck under Dane O’Neill in a two-mile handicap, has the Ascot Stakes as his target.
