RYAN Taylor is desperate to show Oxford United’s fans his best form and admits tomorrow’s game against former club Portsmouth would be the ideal moment to break his goalscoring duck.

The striker bagged ten goals for Pompey last season, but is still waiting to get off the mark despite featuring in every game for the U’s this season.

Taylor acknowledged there was a pressure from within to end the barren run.

He said: “I would be lying if I said no, but it’s not a massive thing to me.

“I just keep working hard and once one goal comes, they will be coming sharpish.

“I’m ready to go on Saturday and hopefully I can get out there and score.”

He added: “If I get the goal it gives me that bit of confidence.

“I’m not a massive confidence player, but once I get one I tend to start flourishing and getting a few, but I want to show the fans what I can do as well.

“The perfect time would be Saturday, it would be nice to get a goal.”

Taylor has taken comfort from the fact the team has been getting good results, until their 14-game unbeaten run in Sky Bet League Two came to an end with a 1-0 defeat at Northampton Town last weekend.

“We’ve been doing well apart from the weekend, so obviously it helps, but from a selfish point of view I want to be out there scoring goals as well,” he said.

“We weren’t very happy with the result on Saturday and we can put it right in a massive game against Portsmouth.

“I’m looking forward to it especially.”

Taylor spent 18 months at Portsmouth before leaving to join United in the summer.

His departure was part of an overhaul by new manager Paul Cook, so many of the side tomorrow will be new faces.

One thing which has not changed is the support, with their allocation of 2,500 sold out earlier this week, but Taylor knows how United can counter-act it.

He said: “We’ve got to get in their faces and not concede early.

“A very quick start and they will soon quieten down.

“A lot of their players are totally different now.

“I think every player who was out of contract, bar one, left.

“Good luck to them, but I’m an Oxford United player now and I’m ready to go.”
