IT has been an unbelievable season for everyone connected with Oxford United.

It started with those fantastic scenes in Austria and ended with an open-top bus parade through Oxford on Tuesday evening.

Somewhere in between we have beaten Swansea from the Premier League, Brentford from the Championship, and Swindon and Millwall from League One.

Throw in Braintree and Forest Green from the Conference and we have beaten teams from each of the top five divisions.

Surely that is a unique claim to fame?

It all built up to a massive game against Wycombe last Saturday.

There was clearly a little bit of pressure, but I honestly didn’t feel anxious or sense any nerves from the players in the build-up to the game.

That’s not arrogance, it’s just confidence in what we do and in each other.

The only time I felt any nerves was amongst the fans around the ground on Saturday.

Those same supporters gave us a magnificent welcome when we came out of the tunnel.

The lads who do the displays behind the goal had spent two days preparing our welcome and they were joined by a full North Stand to create the best atmosphere of the entire season.

We were patient, but there was a little spell before half-time when we started to turn the screw and we built from that and totally dominated the second 45 minutes, scoring three great goals.

The biggest challenge then was trying to stay composed.

I think I hid it pretty well until Callum O’Dowda scored in injury time!

From then on there were fantastic scenes and the celebrations were brilliant.

I’ll be sending the dry cleaning bill to the players, because they soaked me with champagne and beer in the dressing room afterwards.

I know the players and fans celebrated long into the night, but I was absolutely emotionally drained and was home and watching Match of the Day by 10.30.

There has been plenty of time to celebrate since and I’m writing these notes just before the staff and players set off for a few days abroad.

A thank you to the chairman who has been exceptional throughout the season.

It’s a chance to reflect and recharge the batteries, but then we’ll be back and planning, ready to do it all again next season.

ON Tuesday we went on the open top bus around Oxford and I’ll admit I wasn’t too sure what to expect.

It was raining, it was the middle of a working day, and everyone had celebrated long and hard over the weekend.

And yet as we turned that corner into Broad Street there were thousands of people waving, cheering and singing.

What a way to end the season ahead of a busy summer ahead preparing for League One.

Thanks to the city and council councils and everyone who helped organise it, but most of all a big thank you to the fans who came to support us one last time.

This is my last column of the season, I hope you have enjoyed it each week – see you all in August.
