OXFORD United's supporters turned out in force to watch their side win 2-0 at Alhaurin de la Torre last night.

The Spanish fourth division side's average attendances for competitive games are around 75, but more than 500 U's fans turned up at Estadio Los Manantiales.

With takings from the bar taken into account, the club are believed to have made more last night than in the whole of last season.

Joe Nicholls, who was also on last year's tour to Austria, said: "It was a very hot night and I don’t know how the players got through it, but to see so many fans here was brilliant.

"There were obviously a lot who had been to Austria, but there are loads who couldn’t make it last time.

"I don’t know how many were out here, maybe 500 or 600, but they made a great atmosphere.

"I’ve watched Oxford United twice in Europe and we’re unbeaten."

While the U's players and staff are based in a resort up in the hills, the fans have been congregating in Benalmadena.

Nicholls said: "It’s been brilliant to have so many fans out here together singing in the bars.

"Even when we’re going to away games you don’t get this many people together in a social setting. We’ve loved it.

"You can’t wait for the season, seeing the togetherness at the club and how much people care about it.

"This is a nice place to come, but they are all here to support Oxford United."
