LIAM Sercombe will have an X-ray today to check on a troublesome injury which saw him miss Oxford United’s friendly with Leicester City.

The midfielder, who scored a career-best 17 goals last season, has a heel problem which is also affecting his ankle.

It saw him sit out the 2-1 defeat to the Premier League champions, a week after a similar issue kept the 26-year-old on the sidelines for their 2-0 win over Alhaurin de la Torre in Spain.

U’s head coach Michael Appleton said: “He’s got an issue with his heel.

“He’s had it for a while now and there’s a bit of swelling.

“For whatever reason the ankle blew up overnight (on Monday) and he’s having an X-ray just as a precaution to see if there’s any damage there.”

United have two other walking wounded, although neither are thought to be too serious.

Curtis Nelson rolled an ankle after landing awkwardly against Leicester and the U’s should know more about the injury today.

Alex MacDonald was named among the substitutes against the Foxes but has a hip problem and Appleton hopes the winger will be out for only around a week.
