OXFORD United’s games against Bradford City in recent seasons have been very different from the test Michael Appleton’s team face tomorrow.

The Bantams became known as a direct side, who liked to get the ball in to striker James Hanson at the earliest opportunity.

But since Stuart McCall’s arrival, their style of play has completely changed.

And although Hanson remains a key player, he has started only once in 12 games because of a recurring calf problem.

He is unlikely to make the squad for tomorrow’s match.

“To be fair, Bradford did it very well,” Appleton said.

“But they like to get the ball down and play now. And are very good at it.”

McCall knows Hanson will play a big part this season, but the fact his side have been able to stay unbeaten so far shows they have other strings to their bow.

“If I’m honest, it isn’t a concern because of the results,” he said.

“If we weren’t winning or didn’t have options, then of course I would be thinking ‘what’s up with him’.

“But James will obviously be desperate to get back and we want him in the squad again.

“He’s been out running and doing finishing and is ready to join in training.”
