AS you know, a week is a long time in football and things can change very quickly.

Last time I wrote this column we were preparing to face Coventry at home.

Seven days later, and we are two wins and six points better off as we prepare to face the league leaders today.

I thought we were full value for both wins.

If you still have your Oxford Mail around from last Saturday then dig it out and look back at my column.

You will see I asked the players to start on the front foot and set the tempo from the very start of the game.

I was really pleased to see that happen and in truth we should probably have been ahead even before Kane Hemmings scored a good first goal.

From that moment on you could see the confidence flowing and we really had Coventry on the rack for the first half.

Fair play, they rallied after the break but we coped with that, got a fourth goal and killed the game off.

You can’t dwell on individual matches, you have to be relentless and keep moving on.

So it was then a case of getting everyone in, refocusing and trying to do the same thing on Tuesday against Gillingham.

The game was less open, but we scored a very good goal, got our noses in front and I think were the better team on the night.

Strangely we did seem to lose our way a little bit in the fog.

It came down thickly after the break and I cannot remember ever being involved in a game where visibility was that poor.

From the touchline I could see the far side, but I reckon from the stands it would have been a lot harder.

For those of you in the South Stand Upper, we won 4-0!

Credit to both sets of players – nobody complained – they just got on with it and winning back to back matches is an important thing for us.

We have only done it once before this season.

Can we now make it three wins in a row at Scunthorpe this afternoon?

It is not going to be easy against the best team in the division so far this year.

But we are playing well, confidence is high and we can’t wait to give it our best shot.

OUR plans were disrupted last weekend when Marvin Johnson’s partner Laura went into labour on the Friday night.

He rang in, told me what was happening and to his credit said he wanted to play against Coventry if needed.

However, some things are more important than football and I told him to stay away, even if it did mean changing the side around for Saturday.

Happily baby Ava was born safe and sound and the story has a happy ending, because both mother and daughter were at the stadium on Tuesday night to see Marvin score the only goal.

That’s quite a story to tell her when she grows up, and hopefully that is the first of many goals that Marvin scores for us.
