CHRIS Allen wants to see Oxford United show they are ready for the new campaign when Leeds United provide the final test in pre-season today.

The fixture at Elland Road comes a week before the Sky Bet League One season begins with another trip north, to Oldham Athletic.

While there is still one more block of training to follow, this afternoon’s game is the final chance to iron out any problems on the pitch.

Allen, one of Pep Clotet’s assistant head coaches, is hoping to see a side who look primed for competition.

He said: “It is our last one before the league starts, so we will be looking at how we want to set up against Oldham.

“It (selection) is always subject to change, but we will be looking to go there with a plan ready for next Saturday.

“It’s just making sure the cohesion is there in terms of how we want to go about it – offensively and defensively.”

The game is a result of Kemar Roofe’s £3m transfer last year to Leeds from the U’s, who will receive a welcome cash boost from their cut of the gate receipts.

Allen joked about his hopes for the 24-year-old’s performance, but knows the home side, who finished seventh in the Sky Bet Championship last season, will provide a very stiff test.

He said: “It will be good to see Kemar, but hopefully he doesn’t run around too much and misses a few shots.

“They have lots of other good players as well, but it’s what it’s all about –pitting your wits against good players and seeing where you’re at.”

United are hoping to give Mike Williamson some game time for the first time this summer.

Kane Hemmings (thigh) is the main injury doubt, but is believed to have travelled north with the squad.

For Allen, the game will be a return to one of his most memorable United games.

The winger scored in a famous FA Cup fourth round replay in 1994, helping the U’s to a 2-0 lead which was wiped out inside 90 minutes, before Jim Magilton’s winner.

Allen said: “There were proper emotions, because it went to extra time.

“There were some tears in our eyes thinking ‘we’re going to lose this’ and then we got a nice winner.

“It was one of my best nights, for sure.”
