PEP Clotet is expecting Oxford United’s latest sports science development to help reduce the squad’s injury problems.
A cryotherapy chamber has been installed at the Kassam Stadium and is being used by the squad after every training session and home games.
Players stand in temperatures which plunge down to -90C for three minutes, before getting up to temperature with a quick burst on an exercise bike, which has a variety of medical benefits.
United manager Pep Clotet said: “I think it helps them a lot when it comes to cutting down recovery times and helping them to rest better.
“We are using it every day after training and matches, eventually it will make a decent little extra (help).”
United’s treatment room has been busy this season.
Charlie Raglan and Ivo Pekalski have been out since August, while Agon Mehmeti tore a hamstring against Brighton & Hove Albion Under 21s this week.
Clotet said: “Some seasons you’re lucky and have nothing and others you’re unlucky and have more things. You just get through it.”
