DEREK ADAMS has sympathised with Oxford United’s former Plymouth Argyle centre-back Curtis Nelson over his season-ending injury.
Nelson ruptured an Achilles tendon during the U’s Sky Bet League One home defeat to Northampton Town last Saturday.
It means the 24-year-old, who continued as Argyle’s captain after Adams (right) was appointed boss in the summer of 2015, will be sidelined for a long period of time.
The first match he will miss is against his former club at Home Park tomorrow.
Adams told the Plymouth Herald said: “It’s really disappointing for him. He had been playing well for Oxford.
“Players have come back stronger from injuries like this.
“He’s a young boy, he’s athletic and I’m sure the medical staff at Oxford will give him the best treatment.”
Nelson made his debut for Argyle, aged 17, as a substitute in August 2010.
He was offered a new contract in the summer of 2016, but instead signed a two-year deal with Oxford.
Adams said: “I’m sure he was looking forward to coming back to Home Park and playing, and seeing the supporters.
“But unfortunately for him he has picked up this injury.”
