Wilder fumes over ref's penalty call (From Witney Gazette)

CW can take over at Macclesfield, he is a Conferance Manager, not a League 1.

Really - what is your (and a few other less intelligent OUFC fans too) obsession with trying to get rid of the best manager we have had in what, the last 10 years or probably more? CW and KT have brought financial stability, more often than not attractive football, increased crowds, and a higher league position every year that they've been here.

When will you realise that we are not Chelsea or Man City, and we will not go out and break the bank for a top lower league manager who will in all honesty struggle to do a better job.

Ok, CW has made a few misakes and sometimes struggles to have a back up plan, but give him a break. Don't we all make mistakes in our jobs occasionally? But I'm sure he'll learn from this, and afterall he has achieved all of the above. In any other job he'd get a pay rise!

And before you say he's let us slip out of a good postion... Well, who put us there? It wasn't luck was it?

Stop whinging and get behind your team - without a big budget (Crawley, Swindon), we need stability to get out of this league.

Ahem, firstly I'm an intelligent Oxford fan and I'm disillusioned with life under Wilder. Seriously, I'm of the belief that most of our victories this season have come because the teams we've played have been worse than we have been i.e. We didn't out play or were tactically superior to them, they couldn't score.

Let's get some coaches in and specifically attacking coaches who will give the squad the training they deserve. Melville and Lewis were good players but I question their coaching credentials.
Also please stop with the loan signings - give the youth team chance to shine. Plus it will balance the books..

...oh and can we stop being so **** at home. We should dictate to teams not sit back and hope they don't score because -
a. They usually do

b. We fail to respond

Well your title says it, a simple man, a simple man could see we have failed this year, 17 wins and 17 draws, just think what we could have acheived had we had a proper tactilly aware team with strikers who actually had a chance to play the game rather than run around hoping the ball would come there way. We made it to L1 and you didnt but there's no need to fight with each other.
As for our so called big budget this season how many times do i have to tell you Oxford fans thaat all our big wage earners were pushed out when Di Canio arrived in the summer and the players we have now were all free transfers apart from Foderingham,Rooney, Cox and Smith but the combined fee was 300k of those players and we sold players last season for 2.5 million.

The players this season were on alot lower wages but no one knows what wages any player was on as you are all guessing what they are.

So where you get your ideas from that we had a big budget is not true and dont use that as a reason why we won the league. Even if we did have a bigger budget you still have to get the team to perform on the pitch and turn into a winning team which is why we lost our first 5 out of 7 games as we had to wait for them to gel.

That is down to good management by a manager in his frst role as a manager in fact all the clubs like Oxford united should have had an advantage over us as your manager knew the league better than Paolo did, but Paolo is a very clever and astute guy and for all you Oxford fans dislike of him and lets face it you only dislike him as he's our manager if he was at Oxford you would love him he learnt quickly and turned things around. You can have all the money at your disposal but if the team dont gel you are stuffed and its happenned to alot of managers. Look at Lee Clark at Huddersfield the chairman backed him to the hilt gave him alot of money to spend and he failed for 3 seasons to get Huddersfield promoted. Look at Leicester this season with all the money they spent and again they have gone no where. So money isnt the answer to having a successful team it is having a good manager.
For the first three months of preseason our players were training seven days a week and Paolo said we would be the fittest team and we were and the amount of goals we scored late in games was due to other teams being knackered as we played a high tempo game as well and were very fit.
Oxford wont get rid of Wilder as i think the Oxford plan is gradual progression and you can still sneak into the play offs if crewe lose and you win on saturday.
Anyway we will be enjoying a better of standard of football next season as L2 is such a dire league where most teams play hoofball and i m glad i wont have to watch that dross next season.

Why is CW so shocked at not getting a pen' on saturday.........you can see from the photo that the tackle was outside the area.

On the "penalty" wasn't there of course -where else would I have been apart from the CG.

Wilder should realise its " rub of the green" some you get etc - clearly as Inkpot says it doesn't look a pen from that photo.

So maybe CW ain't the man if he's hanging of that as an excuse for not winning.

Not sure which is more depressing: our recent run or the lazy, naive thinking of those who respond by seriously imagining it's all down to the manager. Tottenham have had a shocking run - sack Harry Redknapp, clearly a rubbish manager who foolish hordes thought should have managed England. Man U have thrown away an 8-point lead - sack Ferguson, clearly a rubbish manager who even failed to reach the Champions League Final for the second time in five years - what a loser. Oh, and by the way, Liverpool are seriously struggling to score goals - sack Kenny Dalglish, clearly a rubbish manager who, like Wilder, Melville and Lewis, can't coach strikers because he didn't play as a forward... oh, hang on...

(No, seriously, the idiocy of that argument about our problems in attack, which I've seen posted on this site, really does beggar belief, and shows a total cluelessness of the realities of coaching football.)

Well said that last man. Although I agree CW has got things wrong this season (and I'm sure he acknowledges these - poor loan signings being an obvious fault), there is no reason to sack him. He hasn't exactly failed has he? Let's just get behind the lot of them.

Yes, this season has been a bit of a disppointment, but only because of what has been brought to us in recent previous years.

If we don't improve next season, then maybe consider our options again. But another higher finish than the year before isn't failure, just disappointing.

The question is, does he acknowledge his mistakes ? I doubt it. I am a long way from being convinced that he has the ability to get us into Division one.

I never said sack Wilder I said give him the right support he needs i.e. better coaching staff.
I quote Wilder from the start of last season 'We don't need coaches for the strikers, we'll reverse what we do with the defenders'.
Yeah, that hasn't worked - our top scorer has barely touched double
figures and yet the bloke (Midson) who we let go for being too light weight and not a natural scorer is joint top of the goals chart.
I like Wilder, I think he's got huge potential but those around him are letting him down.
He deserves another season with a tight squad made up of solid pros (Doobs, Whing, Leven etc) a new front line, some professional coaching staff and a bench of eager young players who want to play for OUFC.

Next season will be much tougher than this one has been and we need to be ready.

would love to see this lad tyrone marsh start saterday have not seen him first hand but have heard good things! hardly like are other strikers are firing. what have we got to lose? would like to know what other oxford fans think?

Not a regular - but an honest fan and supporter. I think CW has made some selection and tactical mistakes through the season - but who dosn't?! The key will be whether he learns from them for next year. After all we have had a season of injuries at key times. For those who keep bleating about loan players- I think we should all reflect that if Robbie Hall and Lee Holmes had stayed the end of season comments may well have been different?? We have a stable base financially and a fan base (almost) second to none which will give us an opportunity to grow/go again next season - oh and its not yet all over??? As a fan I remain behind the club through thick and the ocassional thin whoever is in charge. COYY !!

Holmes is quality hope he stays with us - can't blame him for wanting to better himself eh?

How's Holmes done since signing for you? He's a class player who I suspect will be even better playing at a higher standard next season.

Di canio also has a massive budget for next season, swindon will push on again, if they change 3 or 4, they will challenge in league one
