United to face York next season

Oxford United will play York City next season after they beat Luton 2-1 in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final at Wembley yesterday.

Andre Gray put Luton ahead, only for Ashley Chambers to level at the break and Matty Blair to score the winner as FA Trophy winners York returned to the Football League after an eight-year absence.

Really pleased for York, met a few of their supporters at play off final, very friendly good crowd. Glad its not Luton. All we need now is to strengthen our squad so we can join our not so friendly crowd from down the 420. We dont want to miss out again going up to league one. COYY

Normally I don't take delight in the failing of other teams, however...

haha Luton!! I hope you and your right wing, xenophobic, poorly educated, hooligan fan base rot in the conference for many more years!

And well done to York. A fantastic away day. So please FA fixture man make it a summer or a bank holiday weekend.

You've got to feel sorry for the Luton fans though.
Oh no you haven't

I DO hope Luton suffer in the conference for many years to come, they were a very unpleasant little lot and to think that they were always thought of as a family club!

Puts us finishing a disappointing season in Lge 2 in perspective, dosen't it???
Whatever your feelings of Luton & their supporters, just thank goodness we're not in a similar position. I was at Luton when they went mad & fought police & stewards & don't forget the same type of behaviour at home, too!!!
I will forever thank CW for leading us out of that "Hell Hole"!!!!
I do feel for the genuine Luton fans, there must be some & the stitch up that relegated them in the first place!!!

Yep another club which is far far bigger than its league opponents. By far the biggest in the Conference. The biggest club to be outside the league since Ipswich left it in the mid 30s. Just five seasons since they were in the third flight - long way to go to match our 12 season absence (when we get back there for 2013-14). We must get away from playing the Accringtons of this football world. Yep, abuse will come from those who can be bothered!

Two of us Cambridge - Oxford exiles went to the final and sat amongst the ver friendly Yor supporters. I was delighted for them. It was a cracking match with both teams playing excellent passing football. We also won £50 each have correctly predicted the score. 10/1 wre fantastic odds on a 2-1 score line. So it was a fairly cheap day out.

I have to say there are some pretty awful Luton fans - we may have a few too at Oxford - but there seems to be huge number of Hatters that roamed the streets of Wembley in a drunk and disorderly manner that greatly offended us Cambridge/Oxford types. A glass of Pimms and strawberrys for us. We actually saw a Luton type drinking starigh from a bottle. Have you ever seen such a thing!

York are to have a new stadium soon so good luck to them.

Lets all laugh at Luton! Scummy club, scummy fans, and just generally a horrible place. I hope they never return to the football league and are made to suffer for years to come. Congratulations to York, look forward to the game!

It made me laugh extra hard that york got away with the offside, sweet revenge for that disgusting event when the players and fans were attacked.... Happy Days

Yes, we all have less than fond memories of Luton's fans.
But Utd will publish a quarter million pound loss this season which puts added pressure on our playing budget for next. By my calculations a home game against York will be worth around £30k less in revenue than were we to have played Luton.

Glad Luton lost, York deserved to go up.

Luton have some good fans and I feel sorry for them, I don't feel sorry for the ones who rioted after the semi-final defeat two years ago. However when all the laughing has stopped York are going to be a bigger threat to us next season than Luton would have been. Luton failed to beat York once in five attempts and, as is pointed out by Roy Burton's shorts, the money would have been useful.

If you are unable to get to the York games, I recommend listening to the York commentary. A few years back the guy had me rolling all match. I remember one line, in reference to a tackle by Robinson (the left back). "Their bald headed left back just committed GBH on our player" in his 1930's voice.

I agree with an earlier post though, we need to appreciate where we are at. I remember thinking over and over how far away league 2 felt, it genuinely felt as far away as the Premier does now , only reaching L2 was more important.
