United to play three games on US tour

Oxford United have announced the itinerary for their second pre-season tour to the United States.

Chris Wilder’s side will play three games during the ten-day trip, which begins on July 23.

They will take on Seacoast United Mariners in Saco, Maine, a day later.

Games in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, follow against Seacoast United Phantoms, on July 27, and a Jim Dedeus XI on July 30.

U’s chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “Going for another year has enabled both coaching staffs to make a few adjustments to improve the trip even further, but the lads will be working hard over there and it is a great chance to let them bond as a team.”

The U’s will return on Wednesday, August 1.

Sorry, but this trip should not be happening. The club should be investing the money on players, not on a jolly to the States.

.
Probably to include a trip or two to a famous Theme Park ...

Does seem for a club that pleads poverty a bit OTT.

I t does seem so strange being told on one hand that we are 250k in debt, can't spend on players, can't buy the stadium, then to spend all this money on a non event in the States. Last year, it showed us little on how we could perform in the coming Season.
The board needs to adjust their priorities & recall what great fans the club has & get promoted with a GOOD set of players.

There are a minority of fans on this website who demolish morale of players of oufc. How would we get good players in if we stayed at home? We are not in debt as told by a worthy partner of the club. I am glad that we are going to the States. What is wrong with going abroad for pre season, look at the teams around us? Arsenal going to Indonesia or something do you think that is wrong. Some fans are pathetic and want to bring the club down.

Right, a few things here.
Firstly it's the majority of fans who think this trip is a waste of time and money.
Secondly we need to play against competitive teams of a similar standard to OUFC. Not some American part-time college outfit. For a cheaper alternative we may as well be playing Oxford Brookes Uni team.
The point about Arsenal is simply not worth arguing. If you can't see the difference between OUFC and Arsenal then perhaps take an interest in a different team.

I want the very absolute best for Oxford United, they are my team and always will be but sometimes they need to get the priorities right -
a. Fans
b. Stadium
c. Training/Coaching
d. Youth and development
e. New signings
...
z. Jolly to America

This trip doesn't seem to be done for footballing reasons. I agree that we'd be better off playing similar opposition to what we would expect next year and working on a formation that actually works. But in comparison to what a football club spends the money is probably peanuts.

By what right do you speak for the majority of fans ?

You may be speaking for the majority of fans that you know but do you do not for all of us. You certainly don't speak for me.
Such arrogance to think your opinion is the only one which matters or is right.

Well reading how many people do and how many don't both on here and on Yellows Forum suggests that the majority of people, like me don't support the trip.

I meant no offence to you. However I do maintain my opinion on this matter is correct.

i agree i think this trip is a waste of time ,coz its not done for footballing reasons and seacoast is proberly paying the bill, but what the club needs at the min is stabilty and new signings and to get the house in order which it has not got at the min (what do people prefer states , or attracting decent players to the club and signings)

He was suprisingly released by Barnet, don't know why would one of the bottom teams release a 20 goal a season striker. Purely on stats he sounds like a good player for us. The problem we have though is Wilder has signed a few strikers who have had done very well at their previous clubs but Wilder thinks they can be pushed out on the wing and still score loads of goals.

Shouldn't you be on the Swindon Advertiser site commenting on your club's solicitors admitting your manager made inappropriate comments of a racial nature about one of your players and how your Chairman is supporting this? Not to mention your new player who has killed children whilst drink driving?

No, expect you want to avoid those subjects and stick to our pre season plans.

Very different circumstances actually - no alcohol involved in the Chapman case, he was already at the club etc. Not condoning or commenting on the cases though.

My question was why would the Swindon trolls be more interested in the minor points about our pre season rather than the big questions at their own club.

It will be interesting to see the outcome of the FA investigation into Di Canio's inappropriate comments (now admitted by the club's solicitors). IF found that he did say these things, will he walk like Mark Wright did afte making comments of a similar nature?
