OXFORD United will continue to sweat on the extent of Joe Skarz's shoulder injury over the next 48 hours.

The club's medical staff say the full back did not suffer a dislocation during yesterday's 3-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League One.

But while the early news is encouraging, they will wait for the swelling to go down before making a full assessment.

The 27-year-old came off in discomfort after 75 minutes holding his left arm following an awkward fall.

Andy Proctor, United's head of sport science and medicine, said: “The good news is that it wasn’t a dislocation, which can take a while to come back from.

"It’s still quite sore and swollen and we need to wait until that settles down before we can fully assess it but on first looks it seems to be ACJ ligament damage, similar to an injury that Kemar Roofe had at the start of last season.

“We don't want to put time scales on it and should know more in the next 48 hours, but the good thing from our perspective is that Skarzy is a quick healer and we know will want to be back playing again very quickly.”
