AARON Martin is hoping the only way is up after putting an unsettling start to his Oxford United career behind him.

The centre back joined from tomorrow’s opponents Coventry City during the summer, but has struggled to find his best form.

While injuries and the performances from his fellow defenders have been a hindrance, Martin has also had to deal with undisclosed off-the-field issues.

But with the 27-year-old now saying the non-footballing problems are in the past, he is eager to prove his worth.

“I had a few things going on (away from the game) and on the pitch it didn’t go well for me at the start,” Martin said.

“I have had the time out that I have needed to deal with it.

“I’m feeling confident again and raring to go.”

He added: “We are normal people as much as it is everyone’s dream job, especially when you’re a kid.

“You do have a real life outside of football as well and we’re not different to anybody else.

“I think it is just how you deal with it and you have got to push on and get yourself back to where you know you can be.”

Martin has not played in Sky Bet League One since August, but started the recent cup games at Merstham and Chelsea.

Having missed the 2-1 defeat at the Ricoh Arena last month the defender is keeping his fingers crossed he can feature against Coventry tomorrow.

Martin said: “I would love to play against them, I really enjoyed my time there.”

He added: “When you are sitting in the stands and not in the team it is probably the most frustrating thing ever.

“But football changes quickly and you just have to deal with it the best you can.”
