OXFORD United are eyeing another Emirates FA Cup sell-out after being given a home draw in the fourth round.

And the club’s top men believe a clash with the the winners of the all-Sky Bet Championship replay between Birmingham City and Newcastle United is both winnable and a contender for live television.

Under Michael Appleton the U’s have developed a taste for cup shocks and the head coach believes neither side will relish a visit to a packed Kassam Stadium, where they knocked out Swansea City last season.

He said: “Whoever does get through won’t exactly be looking forward to the game too much.

“Let’s hope our form continues right up to the back end of January.

“With the amount of away fixtures we have at the moment it’s reward for our supporters.

“After the result and performance on Saturday, hopefully we can back it up in the next round.

“It’s great for them to get the opportunity to have a decent day.”

The U’s knocked out second tier side Rotherham United 3-2 on Saturday to reach the last-32.

They have beaten Birmingham this season, 1-0 in the EFL Cup last August, while the last time United met Newcastle was May 1993.

The pair, who drew 1-1 at St Andrew’s, will meet again next Wednesday.

United have earned £250,000 from the FA Cup run to date, which will be swelled by a near-12,000 sell-out.

But the potential for an upset could make it attractive to broadcasters and, if selected, it would earn the U’s another six-figure fee.

Chairman Darryl Eales, who is a Birmingham fan, said: “Based on the draw, it might be a TV game, especially if it’s Newcastle.

“If that happened it would be a massive bonus.

“The good news is whether it’s Birmingham or Newcastle we have a shot at going through and it should be a full house.

“From my perspective either of them is a great draw.”

The tie will be played between January 27-30.
