CONOR McAleny has regained his fitness in time to come up against Oxford United tomorrow.

The forward was offered a contract by the U’s in May, having scored ten goals from 14 starts in a superb loan spell from Everton.

But McAleny (pictured) opted to stay closer to home and netted a brace on debut for Fleetwood Town in August, before damaging ankle ligaments a week later.

It has hindered his progress, but he lasted an hour of the Cod Army’s 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town last weekend.

McAleny’s return is a welcome sight for Fleetwood midfielder Bobby Grant.

He said: “Conor’s an exceptional player and if we can get him on the pitch and scoring goals it’s only going to benefit Fleetwood.

“We’re all delighted to have him back.”

Grant helped Fleetwood to a league double over the U’s last season, scoring a penalty in their 3-1 win at the Kassam Stadium in April.

Uwe Rosler’s side would leapfrog their opponents with a victory, but the hosts are braced for a test.

Grant said: “Oxford are a very good side and have some very good players.

“If we’re not up to the standards we set it will be a tough afternoon.”

Rosler told the Blackpool Gazette: "I think the (Oxford) manager is doing a good job you see the signature of his play and they have good players.

"They invested well and they are playing well.

"They are a threat but they also have weaknesses like any team in our league has and it is up to us to focus on our game and exploit their weaknesses and hopefully we can make it count."
