RYAN Ledson is aiming to help Oxford United create another first on the road this season when they visit Highbury today.

Fleetwood Town are one of three teams in English football’s current top four divisions whom the U’s have never beaten – along with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

They have lost five of their six meetings with the Cod Army, but boss Pep Clotet’s side travel north with confidence after putting together a five-game unbeaten run in Sky Bet League One.

And after being part of United’s first side to win at Oldham Athletic on the opening day of the campaign, Ledson is relishing the game.

“That’s a good stat – hopefully we can beat them on Saturday and then we might have a go at the other two,” he said.

“They’re my favourite. I love the away games, especially when we go to tough places and get results.

“I think the (1-0 win at) Bristol Rovers was brilliant and we’re looking to do the same again.”

Since beating Rovers a fortnight ago, United have drawn at home to a pair of promotion contenders.

But the former Everton trainee reckons the frustration at not coming out on top shows a new-found belief.

He said: “We’re playing teams like Rotherham and Charlton and feel we can win.

“We’re really pushing them and I’m going into the game on Saturday thinking we can get all three points.

“Maybe last season we’d have been thinking ‘we’ll take a point away at Fleetwood’.”

The 400-mile round-trip is United’s longest of the league campaign.

It is also just up the coast from one of their poorest displays, a 3-1 loss at Bloomfield Road last month.

And Clotet has made it clear the players are keen to make it up to those who travel today.

He said: “The last time we went that far it was at Blackpool and the game didn’t pan out very well.

“So we would love to give something back to our fans who have been very loyal to us, despite having bad spells at Blackpool and they saw a bad result as well at Bury (a 3-0 defeat).

“But they stuck with us and we paid them back at Peterborough and Bristol.

“We just want to do it as much as possible for them.”
