ALCHESTER battled back to edge out visitors Wallingford 27-22 in their opening fixture thanks to a late try from Adam Thompson.
The hosts had trailed 19-3, but sealed victory when No 8 Thompson was driven over in the dying minutes and centre Adam White converted.
Wallingford took the lead on ten minutes with a try from Dan Sadler, converted by Ralph Smith.
Alchester stayed in touch with a penalty from fly half Tom Barnes.
Tries from James Norris and Smith, who added a conversion, put the visitors well in control.
Barnes slotted a second penalty before half-time, but Luke Best’s drop goal kept Wallingford 16 points ahead.
It was only in the final quarter that Alchester gained the ascendancy, with flanker Matt Beckley scoring their first try, converted by Barnes.
With ten minutes left, wing Souava Rakikiki shrugged off three defenders to charge in from 20 metres.
White converted as Barnes had been sin-binned for a late tackle.
Man-of-the-match Thompson had the final say from a huge driving maul.
