RUGBY UNION: Taylor's late try clinches it for Bulls
8:00am Tuesday 3rd December 2013 in Rugby
A LAST-GASP try from David Taylor earned Banbury Bulls a thrilling 36-33 victory at Old Coventrians in Midlands 2 West South.
Bulls had led by 22 points early in the second half, but surrendered their advantage before snatching it at the death.
Coventrians relied largely on their big pack, while Banbury looked to their lively backs, the sides sharing ten tries equally.
Banbury went ahead with an Eddie Phillips penalty, quickly followed by a try from fly half Alex Fogavini.
Coventrians replied with a converted try but then had three players yellow-carded, and the Bulls took advantage as Carl Daniels and Josh Deegan crossed for tries, both converted by Phillips for a 22-7 half-time lead.
A converted try early in the second half from centre James Heywood appeared to put the Bulls out of sight, but the home side upped a gear by scoring three tries, two of them converted.
With the game entering added time, Coventrians’ outstanding second row forward, Aaron Croft, received the ball in his own half and darted through for a converted try under the posts. It looked all over for Bulls, but Taylor had other ideas.
